of Byzantine Orthodox chant opens again

“[Divna is] the most remarkable representative of old Byzantine-Russian
singing in today’s culture”

─ Serbia-National Review

Divna is not just a name, but an entire level in Serbian culture

The incomparable Divna Ljubojević and her ethereal interpretations of Orthodox chant are regarded among Serbia’s most significant cultural ambassadors. Like an angel from on high, her sublime voice reaches across time and space to elevate and touch souls with love. She started her vocal training at the century-old Vavedenje monastery in Belgrade at the age of 10. Later, she served as choirmaster, inheriting her reverential appreciation of Byzantine sacred music from Russian nuns keen to preserve and cherish the tradition. Ljubojević’s gift for leading other musicians was also spotted at an early age, with the singer becoming the youngest conductor in the 160-year history of the Première Société Chorale de Belgrade.

In 1991, Ljubojević founded Divna and Melodi to raise awareness and extend the art of sacred singing, injecting new vitality into ancient Byzantine culture and traditional Serbian, Russian and Byzantine chant. The choir has given more than 600 concerts in Europe.
